Charitable Lead Trust
A Charitable Lead Trust allows you to transfer assets to future generations of family members while allowing the Media Research Center to enjoy the investment income in the meantime. This trust is most suitable for appreciating, income-producing assets, such as rental real estate.
Often described as a "reverse charitable remainder trust," a charitable lead trust often exists for a definite period of time or lives, with assets being returned to family members at the end of the specified period.
When the assets are placed in the lead trust, their value is frozen for transfer-tax purposes. Any subsequent appreciation between the trust creation date and the distribution of assets to family members is not subject to further gift and/or estate tax. Therefore, a lead trust allows you to leave a significantly larger inheritance to your heirs than would have been possible with a traditional will or other investment product.
While in the trust, any income produced by the assets becomes a current gift to the Media Research Center. For this gift, the donor receives a current gift or income tax deduction, depending on the type of lead trust selected.
